For all those, who have not yet worked with MAXQDA and want a hands-on, praxis-oriented introduction to computer-supported analysis of qualitative data.

Overview

This workshop consists of a mixture of demonstrations and guided practice, focusing on the practical knowledge required for using MAXQDA for the analysis of qualitative data. The workshop covers the contents of the workshops “Analysing Qualitative Data with MAXQDA Starter I” and Analysing Qualitative Data with MAXQDA Starter II”.

Goals

After completing this workshop, you will be able to prepare and import documents to be analyzed in MAXQDA, and they will be familiar with the basic functions necessary for analyzing qualitative data, from creating and managing a code system to coding documents to retrieving coded segments.

You will learn to use memos to hold and organise ideas and thoughts. After the workshop you will be able to use standardised background information (like age, health status etc.) to filter and compare your data. You know how to conduct simple and complex lexical searches and automatically code search results.

Your Instructor

GrahamGraham Hughes is a freelance researcher and CAQDAS trainer. He has worked with computers for 30 years with a particular interest in teaching effective use of software. From 2008 to 2011 he worked in the QUIC (Qualitative Innovations In Caqdas) Project, a node of the ESRC National Centre for Research Methods at the University of Surrey. Prior to that he worked as the content manager for the ESRC Question Bank, an online repository of survey questionnaires.
